Karen Shinozaki Sor - violinist

Karen Shinozaki SorKaren Shinozaki Sor performs with the New Century Chamber Orchestra, the Marin Symphony, the Santa Rosa Symphony, the Sun Valley Summer Symphony, as a regular extra in the San Francisco Opera and Ballet Orchestras, and is frequent chamber music collaborator. She has been acting concertmaster and soloist with numerous orchestras in the Bay Area and a recitalist in the USA and abroad.

Highlights of recent seasons include the world premiere of the Double Concerto by Viennese composer Zdzislaw Wysocki, dedicated to her, her brother Rick Shinozaki, and Kent Nagano leading the Berkeley Symphony; and solo performances with the Santa Rosa Symphony and the Symphony of the Redwoods.

A longtime student of Serban Rusu of Tiburon and a graduate of UC Berkeley, she furthered her studies in Switzerland with Professor Igor Ozim at the Konservatorium Bern as a recipient of a Hertz Traveling Fellowship. In her free time, Karen likes to relax with her cats Ellie and Bass and indulge in her addiction to crossword puzzles.
